Hi Everyone,
I’ll be participating in a 15km Run for Mental Health Research on Sunday 26th August. This is a fundraising event to raise donations to help and assist all of those with Mental Illness. My mum has suffered with Bipolar Disorder since 1979 following the birth of my sister. For those of you unfamiliar with the disease, Bipolar disorder (formerly called manic depression) is a condition experienced by approximately 2% of people that is characterised by episodes of mania. Mania is an emotional state of heightened reality during which the person may feel extraordinarily energetic, optimistic, self-confident and productive. Persons experiencing mania can often go days without sleeping, busily planning grandiose schemes or indulging in exorbitant shopping sprees. Many people experiencing bipolar alternate between periods of mania and deep depression. This is certainly the case for Mum and she has been battling this for 33 years. She takes at least 10 tablets daily to try and manage the condition and in total, we estimate that she has spent the equivalent of 7-8 years in hospital.
So, please donate and help me raise funds through doing this run to raise awareness and to help people like my Mum.
